Aging Wisely: The Podcast

Apr 15, 2021

From time to time, there will be solo episodes. That just means me talking.  No guest. No dialogue.  Talking about something that's on my mind or that I think you all need to think about. Today is that first day- for you.

As a lawyer, you can probably guess, that I talk to a lot of people. I answer a lot of questions. And one of the most frequent questions I get asked is on the issue of incapacity. It's an issue that affects the world of older and aging people and the disabled communities.

And everybody else, frankly.

People think that an incapacity can never happen to them or someone they love. It's hard to ever think of ourselves or anyone else being in that situation.

It's actually pretty frightening.

So what lots of people do is- not think about it. They push it to the side and live in the moment. Don't get me wrong. I think it's important to live in the present and enjoy it. We often lose so much joy with needless worry. But thinking about the future is necessary.

Even if what you fear actually never comes to pass. It never happens. You need to plan as if it might.

This episode addresses incapacity in very straightforward language and attempts to guide you, the listener, through spotting the signs- and acting.
